    Cities Of Glass lo-res
Dom and Lyd return this Thursday with a special acoustic set from ………

Cities of Glass are made up of Richard Hutchison (Vocals, Guitar), David Cuzner (Guitar), Imran Mair (Drums) and John Williams (Bass), all from Hampshire. Like many young bands, they formed while at school, back in 2009. Unusually though, their first recordings which formed the ‘Breathe in, Breathe Out’ EP, released in early 2010 instantly attracted management interest. Full of energy, hooks and a confidence way beyond their years, it was clear from the start, they weren’t just going to be another school band.

The boys gathered momentum, developing their song writing and live shows alongside studying for their A levels. Their main influences, The Joy Formidable, Arcade Fire and Bloc Party started to filter through their music in different ways and they created the sound they’ve now become known for. Playful guitar leads steal in and out of driving verses, glistening piano tones create atmospherics, while subtle layers of vocals add complex and subtle harmonic effects. Cities of Glass’ music is all about layers, and lots of them.

It wasn’t long before they caught the attention of producer Adam Noble (Muse, Mumford & Sons, Wild Beasts). After working through their latest songs in pre-production, the boys headed to the legendary Air Studios, London. The results of this recording session make up the ‘From Where We Are’ EP, released on Monday 13th February. ‘Working with Adam was an amazing experience, we were all on the same page and I think this is a big part of why we are all so happy with how the tracks turned out. The time in the studio was hard work but we learnt a lot and we came away with more than just three tracks’ commented Richard Hutchison.

From the moment the title track bursts into life, you can tell that these boys are heading for big things. Now all 18 and A levels nearly completed, they can’t wait to focus entirely on what they do best. ‘We want to get the EP out there and share what we have been working on. These tracks really signal the start of a new era for the band’ Richard continued.
