Break the Bias is an exhibition celebrating international Women’s day. (8th March - 1st May)

A fresh and exciting art scene is blooming in Guildford this year with the opening of spaces such as the New House and Zero Carbon Guildford.
The New House is a brand new creative hub and space in the heart of Guildford which brings together like-minded individuals, artists, groups and organisations to share spaces and ideas. There are 20 artist studios in the building and a gallery space on the ground floor: The Davies Gilder Gallery, an intimate and modern white wall space. Positioned just a short stroll from the main station, this gallery echoes a more urban atmosphere and is drawing in a diverse and exciting crowd of emerging and established artists. The space was founded by Dominique Frazer (The Boileroom) whose ethos is
“to create an inspiring & inclusive space for all to be creative and grow their artistic disciplines and businesses.”
After the success of the inaugural exhibition, ‘Looking Out, Looking In’, which introduced the works of the resident artists to the local community, curators Dom and Simon Rai (Gallery Assistant) put out an open call for the next exhibition called ‘Break the Bias’, inspired by this year’s International Women’s day, keeping the momentum going. They received a substantial number of applications, finally selecting “a wide breadth of works that cover many aspects of what it is to be a woman today, from the perspective of women” representing artists from a wide range of backgrounds and practices.
The exhibition showcases the work of 22 female artists of all different ages, working across various mediums and exploring themes surrounding the body, heritage, mental health, the environment, motherhood and more.
The opening night on the 8th of March had a brilliant turn out, drawing in an eclectic crowd of just under 200 visitors from 7-10PM, including artists, locals, and admirers from out of town. The exhibition will be open until the 1st of May and we encourage everyone and anyone to go down and check it out, helping to raise awareness against bias and take action for equality! The space is being invigilated by various exhibiting artists, and all the works are for sale.
