About this Kane FM story
I came to Kane for work experience from North East Surrey short stay school and I now come weekly to do a variety of activities, including Novation Launch Pad Pro and Ableton software Pre-record Audio interface, microphone and Pro Tools.
My favourite activity was creating my own music. I firstly went on the internet to find an instrumental version of a song of my choice. Then Gid found this for my backing track and then I could sing over it to make a cover.
The first thing we did when we got into the studio was a mic check. This was to ensure that the equipment was ready for use. As I was beginning to get into the hang of recording, we played back my vocals. Myself and Gid decided they were slightly quiet, so we then done a few retakes to have them be at the correct levels.
One hour later the process had finished, my cover of ‘Nicki Minaj - Save Me’ was complete. When playing the finished product back for the first time made me feel uncomfortable. I think this was due to the fact I tend to dislike hearing my own voice, whether it’s when I’m speaking or singing. It was cool how I was able to use my creativity and talent to contribute towards the end product in a big way. Although it’s tough, I’m now learning I should be proud and take more pride in my singing and the songs I’ve made.
