Feed Your Head with Ed Mahon, Sunday 17th February

About this Kane FM story

Feed Your Head returns, on Sunday 17th Feb between 11:00 and 13:00

This next show feature your hosts The Hutchinson Brothers and a very special guest mix from Ed Mahon.

Ed is a DJ and producer with a strong house music background stretching back to the early 90s.

As Cowbell Radio & Alfresco Festival co-founder/resident he is equally at home playing acid house chuggers, straight up house, disco edits or Balearic beats, he is a Festival regular and an in-demand guest mixer.

Having just returned from some winter gigs in Tenerife, Ed will be playing at the forthcoming Alfresco parties, his various North west residencies, the UK Festival circuit and Ibiza later this year!

Production-wise 2019 will see his own recordings and remixes released on labels such as Tici Taci, NEIN, Emerald & Doreen and $hit Disco, to add to his recent releases on Hot Digits, Paper, Field of Dreams and Eclectics.

The best way to keep up is to follow him at www.edmahonmusic.com

Q. Ed Mahon, a simple enough name to pronounce but it seems a few people, inc. Scott, are getting it very wrong, what is the correct way to pronounce it, and what is the worst you have heard?

I’ve counted 13 variations in total (not bad for 7 letters)! Not sure about the worst but the funniest was always Mahoney, cue Police Academy jokes throughout childhood!!

It is pronounced with one syllable, Mahon (as in Barn), the lads at the cricket club (who were often astounded by my appetite for Egg sandwiches, which masked a lack of any cricketing ability) call me EGG BARM so it sounds like that!

Q. Feed Your Head has an on going mission to find out what is best on a bacon sandwich, red or brown sauce?

Well, as above you may gather I take my food very seriously (my other nickname is Food), so the answer for me is egg-dependant.

If it’s just bacon (or bacon and sausage) go brown, but as soon as eggs come into the equation it has to be red over brown (and yes I’ve tried both…not that great)

Q. Friday Night or Saturday Morning?

Gotta be Friday night, that first pint after work and the beginning of the shenanigans, plus if you do Friday night well enough then you kinda get both!

Q. What can we expect from your mix and which is your favourite track?

Sleazy like a Sunday morning. I daren’t say the ‘B’ word but it starts nice and chilled, like a Sunday should, but then it gets a bit of a FYH wobble on later 🙂

There’s a couple of world exclusives on there, loads of other new stuff and a forgotten gem from the early 90s thrown in for good measure.

Tune-wise, well I really do love them all, a lot of thought went into this and it’s hard only having an hour, I do love a long mix normally.

If I had to pick only one it has to be Stubb’s ‘Love not sex’, which is a great piece of music featuring the combined talents of Ben ‘Flash Atkins’ Davis, Crazy P’s Tim Davis and vocals from Huw Costin and Rachel Foster.

This is blissful, beautiful music and I genuinely think if this was released 20 years ago it would have been on all those Cafe Del Mar-type compilations. It’s too easy to play a new tune and forget about it nowadays, but 4 months on I still listen to this loads and every time I play it people genuinely love it!

Q. Which summer just round the corner, what festival have you got your eye on?

I think I’m pencilled in for 4 so far but the one for me is obviously Alfresco! That’s not just because of my involvement, it genuinely is an amazing line-up and by far the best, most friendly people who come and dance along 🙂

Q. So where can we catch you next and what else is pipe line?

The last track on today’s mix is my latest remix for Go Satta, out soon on Emerald & Doreen. I’m also very proud to announce my next remix will be on the mighty Tici Taci label 🙂

DJ-wise I’ll be playing at the Alfresco warm-up gigs in Birmingham (March 9th with Al MacKenzie and Clandestino) and for the Thames Boat party on April 6th (with Rigopolar and Logan Fisher).

There’s loads more releases and gigs in the pipeline, the best way to follow is subscribe to www.edmahonmusic.com (trust me I don’t spam, it takes me ages just to do one email)!!!

So, tune in to the next FYH show to experience Ed for yourself.
