A made up sound, hissing, clicking, buzzing, ringing, coming from one ear, both or in the head. You could be experiencing Tinnitus, originating from the Latin word meaning to ring. Often referred to as Head noise.

Known causes of Tinnitus, are, stress, anxiety, hearing loss or infection and exposure to loud sounds including everyday traffic.

Tinnitus affects millions, worldwide, including children, yet it is not a disease or illness.  It is an occupational risk to various, within the Music industry, Emergency services, Armed Forces, Engineers, Teachers, Construction/Factory workers, and in some Sports. A risk to any one exposed to loud sounds – unprotected, as well as those listening to sounds at decibel levels akin to a bulldozer for prolonged times.  The quieter the sound the longer you can listen comfortably and indeed safely.

Tinnitus or sounds typifying tinnitus can only be heard by the person experiencing them, where there is no external source; making it difficult to deal with alone. Anytime you feel you could be experiencing Tinnitus, it is very important you see your GP. There is help, understanding, support groups and treatments to help you manage. There is no cure, but the research is so important and ongoing.

Take care of those delicate ears, so essential in understanding the world around us.
