About this Kane FM story
Last week I met with Tony Perry, an award winning author for his novel Chula the Fox, historian lover and quality improvement manager for the NHS . In our 1 hour interview we cover Native Pride within the Chicksaw community, from ceremonies, to land identity, embracing the past and what thanksgiving means to indigenous communities.
His novel Chula the Fox set in the Chickasaw homelands of what is now Mississippi in the 1700s, tells a beautiful tale of family heritage determination, bravery and learning to surrender to rise above revengeance.
The Kane FM Changing the Community series, leads with this year’s theme being ‘change’. We want to share personal stories to educate and enlighten the Guildford community and beyond. In the interview Tony uncovers the history of Indigenous heritage, embracing their past and making aware to people that these communities still exist and still experience racism. We talk about the ongoing “acceptable” racism that Native peoples face today in the UK-most obviously with the Exeter Chiefs rugby club (Tony wrote a piece for news recently, which can be found here).
