Bringing his unique ear for African, Latin American and Caribbean music, Tropical Pete has been a regular contributor to Kane FM’s World Beats show for the past few months and this week we’re delighted to be presenting a 2-hour ‘Tropical Special’ curated and introduced by the man himself.
With wide ranging musical influences, starting with his grandfather’s jazz trio The John Trinder Trio, for which he has incredibly fond memories (one of their recordings is being featured on Thursday’s show), Pete spent his youth playing in various bands and laying the foundations of his musical ear. He moved down to the West Country in the late 90’s to study, immersing himself in the eclectic sounds of the nightclubs of Plymouth’s Barbican, before taking to the road to travel, including embarking on a very influential trip around Southern Africa,
Often under-the-radar and always rich and downright funky, ‘Pete’s Tropical Tip-Offs’ have become a hugely popular fixture of the weekly World Beats programme and the tropical vibes will be rolling non-stop this week from 11am on Thursday 3rd June. Pete still lives out West in South Devon, close to the coast with Mrs Tropical and their three Tropical Bambino’s and trusty pup Scout, enjoying water sports and country walks and soundtracking his life and ours with the music he discovers along the way.
