Katie joins Mary and Mother Hen and Mary interviews Misty Bower from The Matrix Trust talking about youth provision in the area; she talked about everything to do with The Matrix Trust from taking it over and being a part of schools and helping students with various issues including mental health.
The Matrix Trust exists as a Christian charity to be a catalyst for transforming communities. They work cooperatively and creatively in the community and seek to connect churches, projects and youth workers with a particular focus on youth and emerging cultures. The vision is so see communities transform and youth thrive. Misty Bower mentioned that they are currently running six youth clubs around town from Busy Hill, Bellfields out to Horsley and Aubrey. Misty stated that “they are open access youth clubs so open to anyone, usually 11 -16 year olds come along. We provide a whole host of fun activities and a safe space where they know they can come and have some fun, but it’s also a space they can be inspired and try out some new opportunities, make new friends and build their confidence.”
The Matrix Trust is also doing working with secondary schools, Misty claims in the interview “basically youth workers are in four of the secondary schools around the town. They supply one to one support for young people so you could call it a bit of a health triage. So, a young person comes to them and they may have a particular issue, it might just be friendship or it might be something more serious, each worker is able to work out what they need”.
The Matrix Trust is an impressive scheme looking after and bringing out the best in the youth. CEO Misty ended the interview by stating that “we help young people in four areas, we help nurture them, inspire them, celebrate them and empower them.” It’s a very powerful Trust with hard work, care for today’s youth and the amazing support that endeavors to brighten a lot of futures.
